Default Testing Fax setup

I just installed MS FAX running Windows XP and DSL. I'm a first time
user. Is there any conflict with DSL and FAX? Is there any way to
test fax transmissions and/or hardware connections without
calling/faxing a friend? All I am getting is either "line in use" or
"line busy"

There shouldn't be any conflict between your DSL line and your analog Fax
modem provided you have the modem connected to the line through a line
filter. Your DSL provider should have given you some of these filters so
you can connect your telephones to the DSL line; your Fax modem connects the
same way the telephones do. DSL filters are available at your local Radio
Shack store also:

The other problem you might have is with the Fax modem, itself. Windows XP
Fax has proven to not work well with modems that aren't on the Windows XP
Hardware Compatibility List:
