Default clicking on a link in email causes a new IE window to open

Is there any way to get Outlook Express to open links in a new tab if I
already have internet explorer open instead of opening a new window. I find
that when 2 versions of IE are open at the same time it can cause both to
crash.
I have IE8 set so that when I click on a link on a webpage, it opens in a
new tab. Is there a way to get OE to do the same thing instead of ignoring
the explorer that is already running?
Thank you.

There isn't any setting in OE to control this.

The function is controlled by the Windows File Associations, and the
browser itself.

See this article:
OLEXP: How to Configure OE to Open Links in E-mail Messages in a New
Browser Window
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=256953

You want to the reverse, so make sure that Use DDE IS checked.

The DDE settings apply if the application (IE) is already open.

Have you visited the tab settings in IE8? It's there.
