Default MS Project Professional 2002 Install Problems

Hope this is the correct news group for this problem, let me know if it is
not. Here is a problem I am having now. I am trying to reinstall
my MS Project Professional 2002 after I had my hard drive changed and
installed Office 2003. My old Office suite was XP Professional that did not
work after the hard drive was changed either.I keep getting this message
(Error 1402 Setup can not open the registry key
UNKNOWN\MsoHelp.HtmlHelp\CLDID verify that you have sufficient permission to
access registry or contact PSS for assistance) then it uninstalled what had
been installed. I still have some files from Office XP could this be part of
the problem? I can not uninstall XP as it does not show up in my control
panel and I have used the Windows Installer Cleanup.
I first posted to Windows XP news group and it was suggested I try this
group.

When you had your hd changed presumably your origonal hd was cloned to the
new, otherwise how else did OfficeXP come to be there?
It sounds as though whatever process was used has led to a faulty
installation, which is possibly why add/remove doesnt show the installation
and you are getting various err's

Default MS Project Professional 2002 Install Problems

I took my computer to the "experts" to have my hd changed and you are
probably right they screwed it up, now they want more$$$ to fix it. I am
trying to keep this computer going until Christmas and then I hope to
purchase a new one with Windows 7. I would like to install Projects on this
one until then. Any ideas how I can get past this error message?

Default MS Project Professional 2002 Install Problems

Assuming you have a full WinXP cd I would initially try a repair of Win.
However if you have only a win recovery disk, hopefully you have all
application cd's, then I would suggest backing up all data to external media
(Check your data is readable) and then recovering your PC to supplied
condition.
Use any drivers disk supplied with the PC, run winupdate, once pc is fully
patched and running ok, then install MS Project, run MS Update again check
all is OK, then install Office 2003 and run MS Update again

Default MS Project Professional 2002 Install Problems

That is the problem, I have had this computer for about 6 years, have moved
over this time period and now can not find my Windows cd's. I have my MS
Project and Office 2003 cd's. I guess I am stuck unless someone can come up
with another suggestion. Thanks for your help DL
