Default Problem with Office XP assigned via GPO on SBS (long post)

Hi all,

I have a problem with Office XP installing via the SBS2003 wizards and I am
hoping someone might point me in the right direction.

The problem is that I cannot get Office XP Pro to either do an /a install.
Setup advises I need the enterprise version - or the Office Resource kit.
With the Office Resource kit, I can create an MST - which SBS does not cater
for in its wizard based software deployment tools.

However, I cant get the Office installations to complete for users unless
they have local admin rights to their clients (which I dont want).

Using the SBS wizards - I can successfully deploy Office XP when logging
into the client with admin rights. But after moving testing to the "user"
account, Office fails to complete the last part of the installation when
Office 1st launches for a new user.

To get around the user aspect, I decided to use assign Office XP via the
default SBS client computer GPO. I am more familiar with this than the SBS
wizards - but the installation still fails. I assigned Office XP and the
MST to the computer. Upon booting a computer, I see the "Installing Office
XP Professional" message - which flashes by without the software actually
installing.

The client is a clean Windows XP Pro which installed all the default SBS
software (and other test software) without a hitch.

I am completely stumped on this as I am 99.999999% certain I am doing
everything right.

Can anyone give me some avenue of investigation?

zxc,
You may want to post he

There are many very competent people that will walk you thru your problem and offer many opinions on solutions.
We are in the planning stages of deploying SBS 2003 with Office 2003, and from searching the group and reading posts it has helped immensely.

Hi Chris

I started this one off in the SBS newsgroup you mention - but despite some
avenues of investigation - the problem is unresolved. That newsgroup
suggested I have a go in this one.

zxc,
Did you search the group for your specific problem? You can also search google groups if the following does not apply.
I used that as a reference that we use with Office System 2003/SBS 2003. Thought it might help you.
We use now a mixture of Office 2003 and Red Hat as server, major pain is an understatment. Thats why were switching to SBS 2003.
There could possibly be more information he
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...o/default.mspx
Someone else may have better suggestions...
