Default MS Excel 2003 - Unable to get rid of links.

Workbook with multiple worksheets set up, worksheets having links to other
worksheets within that workbook.

A worksheet (with internal links) copied or moved to another workbook and
the links amended to the new (local) workbook, Saved and closed.

On reopening the new workbook, get message advising of external links and
asking if the data is to be updated, although there are now no longer any
external links for that worksheet. Have searched through for any remains of
external links but nothing found, neither are there any modules (with or
without external links) attached to the workbook.

Have tried copying the worksheet as a whole, and also copying the data to a
new worksheet then deleting the original worksheet, but still get the
“update/links” message on opening when that worksheet or a copy of its data
still exists in that file. Can copy the format only to a new worksheet – this
does not seem to carry the "links" with it. If the worksheet is deleted (and
no copy of its data is left in another worksheet) and the workbook Saved,
then there is no "links" message upon reopening.

Have tried both copying AND moving the worksheet from the original workbook
– same result.

How can a worksheet – with links to worksheets in the original workbook – be
moved/copied to another workbook with the links then being reset to the local
workbook, without getting this apparent “carry-over” back to the original
file?

Many thanks.

If you want to find where the remaining links are, try FindLink.xla
from http://www.oaltd.co.uk/mvp

If you want to change the source of the link to the active workbook,
regardless of where the link might previously have been: Edit Links
Change Source

If you don't care where they are but want to replace the result of the
links with values, Edit Links Break Link
