OFFICE 2000 SMALL BUSINESS & OFFICE 200 PRO
I have 2 computers -- an old one with Win98SE running Office 2000 Small
Business, and a newer laptop with WinXP running Office 2000 Pro. With the passage of time, the installation CD for Office 2000 SB has disappeared, but I still have the Office 2000 Pro installation CD. I recently checked for MS Updates for the older computer, and was advised to instal Service Release 1a. After a humungous download and a lengthy installation process, I was asked for the Office 2000 SB disk. The only thing I could do was to try the Office 2000 Pro disk, but that failed because it could not find the correct version of file data1.msi. Is there any way I can instal the updates on the older computer without the Office 2000 SB instal CD? Alternatively, is it feasible to install Office 2000 Pro over Office 2000 SB on the older computer? Would I need to uninstall Office SB first? -- Lindsay Graham Canberra, Australia |

Hi, Linsday,
Unfortunately, there's no way to update Office without having the disk. Also, you probably can't uninstall Office SB without the original disk. You could try using the Office 2000 Pro, if you are not in violation of licensing for that version; I believe you can install it on one desktop and one laptop at the same time. -- Susan Ramlet MVP - Office Please reply to the newsgroups where others may benefit. Unfortunately, you cannot install updates without the original CD. I would
not recommend installing Smal Business over Professional as it can cause problems in the future. If you have install Office 2000 Professional on one computer at this time, I would remove Office 2000 SBE using the Eraser 2000, link below, then install the Office Professional and then install your updates. Download Eraser2k.exe now or an article that has the link mentioned above: http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;EN-US;239938 I hope this helps, -- audeyt “Please do not send e-mail directly to this alias.
