Default winword, exe still runs in background

This is driving my crazy. I am using Office 2003, on XP Professional.. Whenever I close Word, it still runs in the background ( winword.exe )

I typically forget this and only remember it when a) my memory is getting eatin' up and/or 2) When I want to use Word again and can't until I kill it from the task manager.

I do use Outllok constantly and use Word as my editor.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

It's there becuase of Outlook which you say you are using Word as the
Editr... yes, it does sort of "hang" around even when you close Outlook,
but it does eventually disappear.

Suggest you just try to let it be and not let it drive you crazy. Let
the computer "do its thing". First step might be to simply avoid looking
at the Task Manager list. :-)

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Given that Outlook has a perfectly good editor of its own, why not use its
editor and avoid the problem completely.

That's the reason--you're using Word as the Outlook editor.

It's your choice of course, but why do you use Word for this? I
tried it for a few days, saw almost no advantage, and went back
to using Outlook's own editor.
