I believe I should have a workbook called "Personal", which I understand
would hold global macros. The equivalent of Normal.dot in word. Where is
mine?

window|unhide|personal.xls

If it is not there, you haven't created one yet. To
create one, record a macro and choose to create the
personal.xls file.

Personal.xls is not comparable to normal.dot. First and foremost you have to
create it
unless you/somebody haven' already done it. To create it just record a macro
and select personal macro workbook as opposed to this or new workbook. Stop
the recording. Now you have created it. To edit it and remove this temporary
macro select unhide under windows menu, press alt + F11 and delete the
macro. Now you can put code. Personally I prefer other ways, using macros in
the workbooks I work with or use add-inns.. I believe it normally resides in
xlstart
