Default New design template path

Short:
Is it possible to have a different design template path than Word's user template path?

Situation:
We are storing Word's normal.dot in the user's home directory, which is on a server. Now the marketing department wants to implement a custom designed template for all users. If I need to place the new template (default.pot) on each user's home directory, I am wasting hundreds of MB placing the same file in each direcory.

You are correct that the pointer to the template folder is set in Word. One
suggestion would be to place a shortcut to the corporate template in the
template directory.

Hi Sonia

I tried that, but it does not have the desired effect. Placing a default.pot in the template directory loads the template automatically in PowerPoint forcing the user to use it.

A shortcut called default.pot does not do that trick.
