Default Saving scatter template

Greetings - I am trying to save a template of a scatterplot, that includes
the axis titles, chart title, and a trend line. When I first created a
template, everything looks good. But when I attempt to apply that template
to new data, it comes out with all the x-axis data as sequential 1,2,3 data
rather than the columns that were selected. All my data is numeric both when
I created the template and when I tried to apply it to new data. How can I
get this template to be applied as a scatterplot template reading true x and
y values without applying the template and then back tracking to fix the
data. This is about the same amount of work it would take to make it a
scatterplot and then add the titles and trend line. I'm trying to save time
with the template, not create more work.

Alternatively, is there a way to make all charts default with box axis
titles and a chart title?
