Default Error 1706 Setup cannot find the required files

I successfully installed Word, Excel and Outlook from Office 2007 onto Windows XP Home SP 3. Everything works great.

Tonight I tried to add OneNote to my installation. Setup failed with the message: Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files...and I am referred for more information to a setup.chm file that does not exist on my computer. [The setup.chm file is supposed to be located in a hidden folder in my profile, but there is no file by that name.]

I am installing from the LIS and I made sure that every instance of MSOCache in the registry points to the correct location.

How can I resolve the error and install OneNote?

Default SOLVED! Error 1706 Setup cannot find the required files

I have solved my problem, which is described below in detail. Briefly: I have Office 2007 Enterprise. I tried to add OneNote 2007 to my other installed Office 2007 programs. Setup failed with the message: Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files...

After spending a suitable amount of time chasing my tail, I decided to examine my Local Installation Source. The MSOCache\All Users folder was almost empty! How the heck did that happen? Beats me. However, the solution in my case was easy.

I am dual-booting Windows XP with the Windows 7 RC. Office 2007 is installed on both copies of Windows. I simply replaced the contents of the MSOCache\All Users folder in XP with the contents of the same folder in Windows 7 and...voila! Problem solved.
