Default Pie Chart Not Working

Hello,

I am attempting to make a pie chart and am having a bit of
a problem. I have a column of data that reflects answers
(A, B, C, D, or nothing). The first cell C1 is the
Question number "Q1", C2 is blank and C3 through C256 are
the answers (A, B, C, D, or nothing). I want to create a
pie chart that shows a section for A answers, B answers,
etc... Every attempt has resulted in nothing but a 1 in
the legend and a series of A's, B's, etc...and no actual
pie chart.

I must be doing something incorrectly.

Thank you for your time and cooperation.

You can summarize the data with a Pivot Table, and create a chart from that.

Delete the blank row
Select cells C1:C255
Choose DataPivotTable and PivotChart Report
Select PivotChart report (with PivotTable report), click Next
Select the Data range, click Next
Click Layout
Drag the Q1 button to the Row area
Drag Q1 again to the data area, where it will become
Count of Q1
Click OK, click Finish

A column chart will be created.
To change it to a pie chart, select the chart and choose
ChartChart Type.
