Spelling check is complete pop up repeating
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with Office 2003 Professional Edition and
I receive a repeating pop up message the says The Spelling Check is Complete. If I click OK it pops up again and again. This happens in Outlook when composing new mail, excel, access, word, etc. The only way I can escape is to Ctrl+Alt+Del. I am totally unable to use any Office products. I have already ran updated McAffee Virus Scan including pups. I would really appreciate any ideas to help. Thanks |

This could be caused by a third party add-in. Since it occurs in all
of the Office applications, the best way to troubleshoot this issue is to start with one application. Let's start with Word since it can be the easiest to troubleshoot. First see if the issue occurs when you start Word using the /a switch. Go to Start/Run and run: winword /a Note the space before the forward slash. If the issue doesn't occur then the likely cause is one of the following: Global template (add-in): To determine if you are using any global templates go to Tools/Templates and Add-Ins and see if there are any global templates or add-ins listed. If so they are located in one of your Startup folders. The location of the Word\Startup folder can be found under Tools/Options/File Locations and the Office\Startup folder can be found in the Office installation path.. Take a look in each folder and if you find more than one file move them one at a time and try duplicating the error after each file is moved out of the folder until you determine which one is causing the problem. COM Add-in: COM are added via the Registry rather than the Startup folders. To determine whether or not you are using COM Add-In you can add the "COM Add-in" command to your toolbar: - Start Word without using the /a switch - Right-click any toolbar and select Customize - On the Commands tab, select the Tools category - Locate COM Add-Ins on the right - Drag/Drop to a location of your choice - Close the Customize dialog - Click the COM Add-in command If there are any add-ins loaded, remove the tick in the check box and see if the issue continues to occur. If there is more than one add-in loaded, unload them one at a time so you can determine which add-in is causing the issue. Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Spelling check is complete pop up repeating
Thank you for your suggestions Beth. I tried opening word using the /a
switch and I still get the pop up. In word the pop up states "Spell and grammar check is complete." I haven't been able to access the toolbar in Word or any other Office product to follow your suggestion to check for add-ins. Is there any way of getting rid of the pop up so I can get into Tools? I haven't been able to email or work on my documents for a few days now. Frustration and panic are starting to show up. I appreciate your offer to help and would gladly try any other suggestions. If it happens when you start Word using the /a switch then that
indicates an installation issue. The /a switch is a troubleshooting switch that loads Word using the default settings and helps determine where the issue lies. Since this does suggest an installation issue, try using the "Reinstall or Repair" option found in the Office 2003 Setup in Add/Remove Programs. Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Spelling check is complete pop up repeating
This problem just doesn't want to go away. I have tried both Repair as well
as Reinstall. I have even paid for a tech support chat with McAfee thinking maybe that would bring about a solution but still no such luck. During both Repair and Reinstall I did receive an error message: "Error 1919. Error configuring ODBC data source: MS Access Database, ODBC error 6: Component not found in the registry. Verify that the file MS Access Database exists and that you can access it." I didn't know what to do so I chose Ignore and installation continued without further messages. Could this be part of my problems? "Beth Melton" wrote: If it happens when you start Word using the /a switch then that indicates an installation issue. The error you encountered indicates corruption in your Registry which
could potentially extend to the errors you are encountering with spell check. Note I'm not saying that the ODBC error causes the spelling error but the two may be related. Here's a KB article that covers how to correct the error you are encountering when you attempt to repair the Office installation: http://support.microsoft.com/default...roduct=off2003 Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup.
