Default changing the background of normal.dot in layout view

hello, I work for a middle school in Brooklyn and i have
an interesting situation. one of the little darlings seems
to have changed a setting in word on one of our library's
computers. now when we open word, the blank document has
the small grid background. it can be seen in layout view,
but not in normal or outline view. i tried to copy
normal.dot from a good computer onto a floppy and save it
to the affected computer, but when i opened normal.dot on
the floppy it also had the small grid background. if i
change the background to no fill in layout view, the
document changes to normal view and looks ok, but in
layout the grid is still there.

how do i change the normal.dot so that there is no grid?

thanks for reading my ramblings and for any help

Display the Drawing toolbar and choose Draw | Grid. Clear the check box for
"Show gridlines on screen."
