Word 2007 inserts blank space at first location on every page
I have a multi page document. Word 2007 has inserted a blank space in the
first location on every page. If I edit the document and the text that was line 1 moves down, the space is gone, but the new text will now have a space. This space is visible both on the screen and the printed page. I have read all the Word help files and many of the threads on this site and I don't see this problem addressed anywhere. Can you help? |

Word 2007 inserts blank space at first location on every page
I should add that I have looked at the codes "behind" my document. On the
pages where the extra space does NOT exist, there are two paragraph marks and the test starts in the third line location, on the pages where the extra space does exist, the text starts immediately after the second paragraph mark. Actually, I prefer there be no paragraph marks at all as it starts my text too far down the page and changing the margins does not help. How can I control these hidden paragraph marks? For the space at the start of the first line, try
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting...lyIndented.htm. For the hidden paragraph marks, these may also be in the header, so you should try to delete them from there (you won't be able to delete the first one). -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Word 2007 inserts blank space at first location on every page
Ok, I could not make that work. I could not find any box other than the one
which held the page numbers, so I deleted that. There is nothing in either my header or footer but I still have the indented line at the top of the page. This document was originally created in Word 2003 and is now being used in Word 2007. Any other suggestions? Word 2007 inserts blank space at first location on every page
If you're using Insert | Page Numbers to insert page numbers (which is what
it sounds like), then it is even more likely that you have a wandering empty frame. If you display text boundaries, it is much easier to spot these frames, although clicking around in the vicinity of where the disruption occurs should probably turn it up. You have to be in the header layer to be able to access it. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org "Meri Reinhold" wrote in message ... Word 2007 inserts blank space at first location on every page
How do I do that? In the article that was recommended, the steps involved
choosing menu items that do not exist in Word 2007 - at lease as far as I can see. When I select "insert header/footer" I then choose "edit header", there is a Paragraph mark, but i cannot delete it. I can highlight it, but I cannot "cut" it or "delete" it. If I right click it, I get a list of options, but none of them work, investigating options such as paragraph don't lead anywhere either. There is no Tools-options as your article suggests. There is a "view" tab for the document but it lists only document views, show/hide, zoom, window, macros as the choices - there is nothing about text boundaries or text options of any sort. I feel certain the problem was created as you suggested, by using "insert page number" instead of using the insert page number button on the header/footer toolbar, but the solution as it is written doesn't seem to work for me. Does it make a difference on which page I am attempting to do this? I have tried several pages, but the formatting options don't really change from page to page. "Suzanne S. To access the header or footer in Word 2007, you just double-click in the
header or footer area. Text boundaries is at Office Button | Word Options | Advanced | Show Document Content. -- Suzanne S.
