word 97 tables opened in word 2003 have a right indent -2.54

Default word 97 tables opened in word 2003 have a right indent -2.54

when i open a word 97 document all the tables (and some paragraphs too) have
a right indent of -2.54cm which means the text does not display fully at the
end of each line. There are '000s of documents!
