Default Maximum number of data series

Maximum number of data series is 255 in Excel. I am using
Excel 97.
Is there a way to go around that? I have more than 255
series and I want them to be on one graph?
Thanks,
Sonya

Hi Sonya,

It maybe possible to work round it but it would require more information
about your data and what you are trying to graph.

Default Maximum number of data series

Andy,
I have 1400 series (item numbers). Each series contains data for past three years.
Item_no J-01 F-01 M-01.... O-03
XX1 1 o 5 o
XX2 5 3 9 4
XX..
XX1400 5 6 3 1
This is the layout. I hope this will help you to undersatand my situation.
So, you are saying that it's possible to have more than 255 series on the chart. How??
Thanks,
Sonya

Hi Sonya,

No it's not possible to change the limit. I said 'possible to work
around it'.

What type of chart is this?
How do you see the user identifying the data series XX1 in your chart?

Sonya,
Have you thought what a chart with 255 plus data series would look like?
I think I would rather eye-ball the raw data!

Bernard -

Good point. I was going to say, 255 series is about 20 times too many!
The most series I've had in an effective chart is around 15, maybe
more if you include all my dummy series.
