disabling cache on installation...
No.
GO wrote: Hello, Is it possible to prevent the LIS (Local Installation Source) cache being created during an install of Office 2007? It was quite easy to do in Office 2003 (simply modifying the setup.ini file) but I haven't been able to locate a way to do this for the latest Office suite. In my research I've found there are ways to specify where you want the LIS to go (in the config.xml file) but no way to disable it. TIA, Greg |

Hello,
Is it possible to prevent the LIS (Local Installation Source) cache being created during an install of Office 2007? It was quite easy to do in Office 2003 (simply modifying the setup.ini file) but I haven't been able to locate a way to do this for the latest Office suite. I'm not here to argue with you. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924616 "Description of the Local Install Source feature in 2007 Office programs". GO wrote: Thanks for the reply. Is there anyway to (safely) remove it after the installation? Why does MS deem it necessary that the install files be cached anyways? I can understand it in a corporate/networking environment but for a home computer? What if every application started doing that? You'd be out of hard drive space in no time. garfield-n-odie [MVP] wrote: No. GO wrote: Hello, Is it possible to prevent the LIS (Local Installation Source) cache being created during an install of Office 2007? disabling cache on installation...
Thanks again (I think?
And I certainly wasn't looking to argue (unless you were an developer of MS Office , I was just stating how silly I thought that they're permanently installed, especially when I have a perfectly good disc handy should the need arise in the future. I thought it was odd considering how rare it is to actually need the install media again. I have Office 2000 and 2003 installed (on 2 different computers) which have been installed for *years* now and I've never once needed the install discs. Oh well. Thanks for your assistance. garfield-n-odie [MVP] wrote: I'm not here to argue with you.
