Default "Transfer" MS Office between laptops

Hi,

I had purchased and installed MS Office on my VAIO laptop when I broke the screen. I immediately bought the very same laptop as a replacement, but the version of MS Office on the new VAIO was obviously only a trial version and after a couple of months I am unable to edit documents or spreadsheets.

My query was whether there is anyway to "transfer" my purchased copy of MS Office from my old laptop to the new one, since I had only been using it for a year or so when I broke the first VAIO. Not sure if this is technically possible or even if it infringes on any licensing laws, but it seems odd to have to purchase something a second time just because something else (IE the screen on my older VAIO) is broken.

Many thanks,

Christian

You can install Office on your new computer. If you have to phone
activate, just tell them what happened. Be sure and uninstall the trial
version first.

But what version of Office was purchased? If this was an OEM version of
Office the license dies with the first computer it is installed on. If it
is a retail version it can generally be freely transferred to a new system.
