Default Does Outlook have to be open for my calendar reminders to pop up?

When i set reminders for events on Microsoft Outlook Calendar, they only pop
up if I have the program open. When I used to use the old Microsift Works
calendar, the reminders would occur even if Microsoft Works was not open.

How can I ensure that reminders will be ubiquitous?

Microsoft Works has a small reminder engine that runs at start up. Outlook
doesn't and needs to be running in order for your reminders to work.

Will Outlook Calendar in the near future have the ability to have the
reminders occur on your desktop even if Outlook isn't running?

When is Microsoft going to get into the 21st. century? I have been waiting
for calendar reminders since replacing Microsoft Works with Office 2003. My
MISTAKE!(Microsoft Works has a small reminder engine that runs at start up.
Outlook
doesn't and needs to be running in order for your reminders to work.) How
difficult could it be to use same technology with Office Calendar ? We who
need reminders do not always have our Office Program open throughout the day
and this reminder is very important to those of us with various appointments
throughout the day. Please consider this most urgent need and request for
your loyal constomers. User friendly is great!

The reminder engine in Works uses different technology than Outlook- outlook
uses the MAPI service and needs to load and run in the background for a
reminder service to use it. Minimize outlook to the tray and you won't know
its running - you'll get reminders as needed.

Do you know if there is a way to have Alerts and Reminders work for everyone
who uses a calendar that one person created and shared and allows others to
creat, edit, and delte items from the calendar?

We can see the apppointments and change them but only the person who created
the original shared custom calendar gets the 15 minite alerts?? WE use
Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003 Server

Thanks
Bob

POOR ANSWER. I miss the reminders popping up when I turn on my computer.
Seems strange that although the 'TECHNOLOGY' is different from the Works
calendar compared to the Outlook 2007 calendar that your professional
software engineers haven't yet found a solution to this dilemma; Especially
since the first posting was over 4 years ago.

Jeeeze! Just because it's not what you want to hear, although it's correct,
does not make it a "poor" answer!

I miss the reminders popping up when I turn on my computer.

Then add Outlook to your start-up folder....

No-one here works for Microsoft so they aren't "our" software engineers.....
