Default Password protection and templates in MSWord

I have created a new MS Word template (our company letterhead) with areas
that should not be changed by other staff members, so this area requires
protection and of course, another area where the staff can type their letter
details. The password protection works within the template (.dot) itself but
when a new document is created from this template, the password protection
disappears.

Can someone please advise how to keep the password protection on certain
areas when a staff member wishes to create a new document from this template?

Thanks so much!

Don't bother. You make life hard for everybody without actually achieving
any benefits. Most users won't change the headers or footers anyway; and the
rest will view your protection as a challenge to be defeated on principle
(which is actually very easy, whatever you do). At the same time, you'll
confuse ordinary users who expect Word documents to behave in an unprotected
manner, and in my experience *YOU* will ever more get the blame for
*ANYTHING* that goes wrong on users' computers ("My Internet Explorer has
never worked properly since you installed that protected template ....")
