I have created a couple of big cells for text. I have word wrap on and if I
type in at least 2 lines of text, when I tab out of the box, the text is
turned into a single row of # characters that go across the first line of the
box.
If I double click into the cell again, the text reappears, but as soon as I
click outside, the # characters come back.
I have tried adjusting the right edge of the box out to the right some, and
this is not doing anything to fix.
Any ideas?

Sounds as if you've given the cell Text number format. Change it to
General.

try adjusting column width. You may have the column width too narrow.

This can also indicate you need to increase the width of the cell by width or
length to view the entire contents of the cell. If there is not enough room
to display the entire cell contents it can display # symbols.

Gentlemen, all excellent suggestions. Changing the field from text to
general did the trick.
Also, doubleclicking the line between each cell that this box encompasses
"straigtened out" some cells that were collapsed.

So, multiple cures for the problem at hand. Thanks again.

Joel

If the data is a number or date this would hold true, otherwise not.

OP states "two lines of text".

Jim's response is most likely the correct one.

Excel has a problem with cells that contain 255 but 1024 characters.
