Click on the 4 colored squares and select Close - when it asks if you want
to start it the next time Windows start, check no. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. remove office 97 shortcut bar
This doesn't work when I run Office 2000. Instead of "close" it offers me the
option to "exit" but doesn't give me the option to not have it come up the next time, so every time I reboot the dang thing comes back again. How do I get rid of it? I'm on windows XP. It's been a while since I used Office 2000 so I can't confirm...but try
running "msconfig." There might be an entry in there for the shortcut bar...just de-select it. Or check the Startup folder (both of them...the All Users and the one for your account). remove office 97 shortcut bar
The discontinuance of the Office Shortcut Bar feature starting with
Office 2003 was lamented by many. Here you have a version of Office that includes this feature, but you don't want it. Go figure... Do you just want to prevent the Office 2000 shortcut bar from starting automatically every time you start Windows? If yes, then right-click on the Microsoft Office (mso9.exe) shortcut in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup, left-click on Properties, and remove the -b and -o switches from the command line (target). If the Office 2000 shortcut bar still loads after you restart Windows, then it may also be necessary to locate the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Sh ortcut Bar\AutoStart key in the Windows registry and change its value to 0. Or do you want to completely uninstall the Office 2000 shortcut bar feature? If yes, then close all open programs, click on Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Microsoft Office 2000 | Add/Remove | Add or Remove Features | click on the + to the left of 'Microsoft Office' to expand the category | click on the + to the left of 'Office Tools' to expand the category | click on the little black downward-pointing triangle to the left of "Office Shortcut Bar" and set it to "Not available" | Update Now. You may be prompted to insert the Office 2000 CD, which you should have. ProfessorDJF wrote: "Tim" wrote: It's been a while since I used Office 2000 so I can't confirm...but try running "msconfig." "garfield-n-odie [MVP]" wrote: The discontinuance of the Office Shortcut Bar feature starting with Office 2003 was lamented by many. Here you have a version of Office that includes this feature, but you don't want it. Go figure... It clutters up my desktop (I need all the real estate I can get because I have vision limitations and want to use large fonts, etc.). I never need it anyway because if I click on any microsoft object it pulls up the correct application and if I want to do something new I usually start with something old and modify it (that saves a lot of time). If I really want to start from scratch, which is rare, I can use the start menu. So I have little use for the shortcut bar and would prefer to use the space it occupies for frequently used shortcuts. I'll try your suggestions tonight. Regards, DJF |
