Windows Installer - This patch package could not be opened.

When running Setup, this message This patch package could not be opened.
Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact
the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch
package ... and ... When attempting to open Word, this message comes up
This application must be installed to run. Please run setup from the
location where you originally installed the application.


Office 2000 was downloaded to my computer a year ago and I had to reinstall
it for some reason about a month ago. The messages keep coming up when
trying to reinstall. Can anyone help in getting around this issue?
