Default receiving emails interrupting text input

Hello, Outlook interrupts whatever I am working on (tax, browsing, msword,
etc) when receiving emails. Eg - I was typing my question here and outlook
interrupted my typing when it check for new emails. This causes whatever I
am inputting to be interrupted, seriously screwing up whatever i am
inputting, ie partial text etc. I purposely have Outlook set for every 5
mins check for new emails, and I like that, but I want outlook to do it
WITHOUT interrupting my text or other input work while it is doing so. Any
settings or relief for that? I have a dual core Dell PC.

Thanks,
Brad

What is the exact version of Outlook as reported in Help- About...?
Which mail account type are you using? (POP3, IMAP, HTTP, Exchange,
Other...)

Tried it in Outlook Safe Mode already?
Start- Run; outlook.exe /safe
(note the space in the command)

Do you have a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook?
Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try again; you'd
still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus
scanner. For more details see;
