In Outlook, Normal view no longer default - what happened?
For the entire time I had Office 2003, Word has been my email editor and it has been in normal mode for viewing, both with replies and with new messages. Now, it still works most of the time in reply, but with new messages, it defaults to web view for some reason. I've tried going to the normal template and changing it, but if I do then my Word documents, which used to open in Print Layout will open in Normal. I did change one of the Normal templates (for some reason I have two, one with a ~$ in front of it) to normal view, and frustratingly the Word documents (outside Outlook) open in normal view now instead of print, and the Outlook emails in Word open still in web view! What can I do?

G'day teutonictrio ,
I have a feeling there is a mail message template somewhere that is used by Outlook - that would be the one to change the view on. Steve Hudson - Word Heretic Want a hyperlinked index? S/W R&D? Thanks Word Heretic, but the only two templates in the folder are Normal and ~$Normal, and both are the same...

~$Normal is a temp file and is always present when Word is open. If it is
present when Word is closed, delete it. Are you sure that it isn't Reading view - the default? In Outlook, Normal view no longer default - what happened?
Graham,
I deleted the extra Normal template, but no change. Also, I took the remaining one and changed it to Normal view, but when I open a new email, it still is in Web View. if I reply, it goes in Normal, but not in a new email. I have to go to View-Normal to get what I want, but to do that every time is annoying, and it never used to do this - always showed Normal view by default. When I go to Tools/Options/General in Word or after opening an email (Word is the editor, of course) there is no selection for what view to use, so to change it I must go into Word, pull up the Normal template, and go to View - changing it there, which doesn't work for the email. I think Web view is automatically set by choosing HTML as your default
message format, which *is* a web format. If you set plain text as the default message format, you get normal view. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org teutonictrio wrote: Graham, I deleted the extra Normal template, but no change. Graham,
I have always been in html mode as I prefer to utilize hyperlinks and such, and it was in Normal view - view and mode are different. If I switch to plain text mode, I can get normal view, but I used to be able to have normal view in html mode.. In Outlook, Normal view no longer default - what happened?
I know for sure that html mode works with normal view because my laptop has those settings. Is there any way to change the default view for a certain mode? Instead of working with the template, is there a way to access html mode to signify that it should be in normal view instead of web?

I just checked my laptop and it has html mode with normal view, just what I remembered having on this computer. Is there a way to change the default view for a particular mode, so that I can specify that in html mode it shows in normal view?
