Default Scanning with a hand held unit?

I was wondering if you scan the barcode into excel it puts the what the
barcode means. Like the numbers or letters...
I am wondering is there away to scan the Barcode into 1 cell and right next
to it in the next cell put the numbers or letters. Is there away if so how
would I go about doing it...
I have the barcode font file but can't get the 2 cells to link...
Cell 1 needs to have the barcode
Cell 2 needs to have what cell 1 means..

Thank you for your time in this matter...

Every barcode scanner I ever used scanned the printed barcode and converted
the content into alphanumeric.
I have never seen one act like an image scanner

Can I ask you this...
If you scan somthing into 1 cell can you make it scan into 2 cells at the
same time were the first cell has the barcode font and the other cell have a
normal font...

is there a way to do this...

Default Scanning with a hand held unit?

This shows a pretty basic misunderstanding of how barcode scanners work and
is nothing to do with excel.

Just because you format a number with a 'barcode font' doesnt make it a
valid barcode - ie: one that someone else could 'scan' and interpret and
applying some other font to it wont 'decode' the barcode. Think of it like
this - if I had a 'japanese' font and I pasted it over this english text
would you expect it to convert my english to japanese? (if you dont see why
this wouldnt work then you need a LOT more basic research)

The reverse is also true- a barcode is simply a picture which is
interepreted by a scanner in an agreed way, the chances of you drawing a
series of lines and coming up with a 'valid' barcode are slim

so the first question is "what are you trying to achieve" -
if it is to read barcodes from packaging etc then buy a barcode scanner and
it will come with software to get the scanned code into (at least) a text
file which you can then bring into excel.

if you want to produce bar codes then invest in a bar code printer - it will
come with software that does the same job in reverse.

If you are trying to cobble something together that lets you use a regular
flatbed scanner to collect the bar codes and then 'reads' for you I suggest
that you dont need excel until you have succesfully scanned AND converted the
barcode
