Default Problems changing fonts when replying

Using Windows XP Home and OE6, I have no problems changing fonts, font
sizes and colours when sending a new mail.

But when replying to a Rich Text mail in Rich Text, I sometimes like to
interleave my responses between paragraphs or sentences of the original
mail, and to set my responses to have a different font/size/colour to
the original. So I place the cursor at the end of a sentence, press
enter twice (to create a blank line), decrease indentation on that line
to delete the vertical bar and set font, colour etc. for my text.
Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. I find that although I
can apparently set a new font (which shows up in the font box), as soon
as I start typing, it reverts to the sender's font. If I carry on
typing, and then try to select my text and change font or colour, it
doesn't work.

Yet with other mails, I seem to have no problem doing this. Any ideas
on what is causing this and how to get round it?

Hi Richard,

It's problematic to try changing the HTML elements in the reply. Which
instructions, the old or new, will be operative. There are two suggestions I
can think of:

1 Enter all your reply text first, then highlight and change font and color
2 Before entering your reply text change the format to plain text, then
back to Rich Text (HTML). Set your preferences for font and color and enter
the reply text.
