Default Hyperlinks will not open in OE6

I've been having the problem of hyperlinks within emails I receive not
opening anymore. I have never had this problem in the past and can't figure
out what happened.

I tried both Method 1 and Method 2 listed in KB Article Q257464 without
success.

Then I tried open a hyperlink in my husband's OE mailbox on the same
computer and his emailed hyperlinks work perfectly. There must be something
different about my settings but I can't find anything.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know from reading
this newsgroup in the last couple days that others have this problem too.

Thanks!

Default Hyperlinks will not open in OE6

From:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut)
and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If still no joy:

Try re-registering these dlls:

Start | Run | type, or Copy/Paste, these in one at a time and try again.
(Note the space in each command).

regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

In IE, go to: ToolsInternet OptionsPrograms. Click: Reset Web
Settings - (uncheck box for homepage) - Click Yes.

If you have installed a beta of IE7, go to Control Panel | Add or Remove
Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults and make Internet Explorer the
default browser.

No, you don't. You don't have this:
Since you have WinXP SP2 you will want this update:
There are two articles, KB918766 and KB918651, but the latter is not
currently available. The download link is
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

It places the backup in Recycled, overwriting any earlier backup of the
sane folder(s). To use it, copy it to the store folder, delete the one you
want to replace and then rename the BAK file to DBX. (It's a bit more
complicated if the messed up DBX file isn't there or contains messages that
are new that you want to keep.

However, this won't fix the problem.
Go to Control Panel | Add or Remove
Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults and make sure Internet Explorer
is the default browser.

Hello all,

I have a client having the exact same problem with a Windows 2000 machine
and we've tried Method 1 and 2 as well in addition to making sure that IE is
the default browser. Hmmm...

Thanks for the feedback Bruce. However, I'd already tried that being very
careful to do exactly. Tried with DDE checked and unchecked and still no
luck. I'm still hunting around for the solution, but more importantly, the
cause so it doesn't happen again.

Thanks anyway.

You are not using IE7, correct? Then try this also.

Try re-registering these dlls:

Start | Run | type, or Copy/Paste, these in one at a time and try again.
(Note the space in each command).

regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

In IE, go to: ToolsInternet OptionsPrograms. Click: Reset Web Settings -
(uncheck box for homepage) - Click Yes.
