I messed up something cannot send but can receive email
I messed up something on Outlook express 6 on windows xp.
My daughter's new notebook computer had no trouble picking up email and sending it. I run office 97 on it. I happened to notice that while in MS Word document, I could not do File / Send that particular document as an attachment in outlook express. I did not realize at that time that I could not do that either on my desktop and perhaps it is because Office is old program. I did see some link under File / Send - an option for outlook or something like that so I started to follow those instructions and it looked like I was setting up an outlook profile (not outllook express),. Outlook is not on the computer although it was originally, by mistake, installed when I installed office - subsequently I uninstalled outlook). Then I saw that when on the internet, under options, programs, outlook express was not listed as default program, and there were no options to chose from. Sending and receiving in outlook express caused an error - no server f ound but incoming mail can get through. Tried to reset IE web settings but that did not work. In OE checking the box to make it the default mail handler - it does not keep the setting. What have I messed up? Any help appreciated. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Will try this over the weekend - is there any danger in using the msimn.exe command? Can it really mess up the computer in a bad way? I had my daughter try the other methods and they did not work. alan "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... I've seen a few posts where it failed to work, but I haven't seen any
posts where it caused a problem. I've only been following this NG for a little over a year though. -- Bruce Hagen ~IB-CA~ "Alan" wrote in message ... I did the msimn command which then allowed outlook express to be the
default mail program - without that command the settings would not "hold". I should be ok now. thanks alan "Alan" wrote in message ... Bruce Ok thanks. alan "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ...
