Why do I get these emails "Mail Delivery Returned mail"
with a subject --
"Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender "

I did not send out the email to the address, my email address is
listed at the sender of the email. How does this happen?

Thanks
Beryl

Could be a Virus, either on your machine, or one a friends who as your email
address in their address book?

This is coming from a virus infected computer that is using your
address to
spoof the From field. It's very common. As of now, all you can do is
delete them.

Hi Beryl,
I see that you are posting with what appears to be your correct e-mail
address. Your address has probably been harvested by a spammer and probably
sold on as an entry in a database of genuine e-mail addresses. These
spammers then use the OE Bcc facility to send message to other genuine
addresses on that database, with your address as the "From" address.
Recipients of these unsolicited messages return them to you as unknown
(assuming they have a programme like "MailWasher Pro" or similar).

If you are getting only one, or two every day, or every other day, it is
probably a virus from some infected computer; not necessarily your own.
Viruses do two things: One, they forge the sender email address; any bad
destination email address may generate a bounce to the forged (I.e., your)
email address. Two, they fake bounces; the infected computer sends what
appears to be a bounce to your email address. Either way, they got your
email address from any part of the HDD of the infected computer which has
email addresses stored; even from the message headers.

Using your actual email address in the post you made is guaranteed to draw
Swen viral email to that account. One way to avoid that is to use a fake
email address. Something with .invalid at the end is preferable; I.e.,
".

If you are getting hundreds a day, most likely some spammer has forged your
email address as the sender in his spam run. That happened to me a year ago.
The storm petered out by the end of the month.

Either way, virus or spammer, there is not a whole lot that you can do about
it, other than filter and delete.

Beryl,
You could open a new e-mail account, advise all your contacts of the new
address and then close the compromised account.

Beryl,
When you open a new account stop publishing with the new account address.
