Default Can outlook notify me when I book an appointment when i am busy?

When someone sends me an appointment, or if i create one myself, for a time
where i already have another appointment scheduled, outlook will not notify
me of this, and will allow me to accept, hence causing a dillema when i
finally realise.
Is there any option to make outlook tell me i'm busy during this time, and
not allow me to accept?
Perhaps only allow one meeting at a time, forcing me to either reschedule
the original, or the new one?

Outlook does tell you that you have a conflict. The information line
(yellow line at top of each item) will tell you that you have a conflicting
appointment.

Thanks,
but this is only visible after you've made the appointment, i was wondering
if there's any features where an alert window will tell me of the clash, not
letting me create/accept the appointment without clearly being notified...
thanks for your help,
Simon.
