Default Timeline

Is it possible to create a bar chart type timeline in
Excel. It would have tasks on the verticle axis and the
timeline on the horizantal axis. The result would be a CPM
type bar chart. I've seen it done but don't know if it can
be done on Excel 97. Our IT people say it can't be done
but I've seen it.

If Gantt is what you are trying to do, then set the data
using floating bars, an option on the custom types tab of
the chart type dialog box. It plots two series - a start
date and a duration.
