Default switching identities problem

When I use OE 6.0 and try to switch identities it closes Outlook Express and
i get an error report then have to restart.

I'm using it with IE 7.0bata - is that the problem?

Windows version? Is the machine fully up-to-date at Windows Update?

OE Help About Files: What versions of MSOE.DLL is displayed here?

MSOE.dll version 6.00.2900.2905 (xpsp_sp2_gdr.060510-0125) is the only
MSOE.dll listed.

Default switching identities problem

One or more of your current Identity may be damaged (usually it's the default Main Identity). Try one or more of your Main Identity mail accounts in a new Named Identity (File Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (3) delete the old one (File Identities Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Default switching identities problem

Hi:

I just started using the program today - so I have no folders or messages to
import!

That is why I'm wondering if it has something to do with using Outlook
Express 6.0 with Internet Explorer 6.0. One of the "send error reports" I
got, I clicked on the details and it said I should get a OE 6.0 patch - I
attempted that and it said the OE patch would only work with the IE 6.0
version.

You're running IE7 Beta(3?). If the default account in either identity is an MSN/Hotmail account and OE is configured to open directly to the inbox or Send/Receive on opening, install this patch and see if doing so helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904942

Default PA Bear

PA Bear,

You wouldn't happen to live in the Dallas area would you? )

As I just posted in another thread, I am having constant trouble with
switching identies also. It's killing me. I have about 6 in total, but none
are new at all and this just started happening about 2 days ago. I read thru
your recommendations to Cheryl, and I'd have to "call a guy out here" because
I am dumber than BABY Bear when it comes to these things. Who should I call?
I also have a general computer problem too in addition to this. Quite often
when I try to shut down computer, it doesn't shut down. It ignores me......
then gives me the non-responsive thing, send error report, etc.... Can a Geek
Squad guy fix this 2 1/2 year old Dell Lemon?
