hyphenation: how to correct the auto-hyphenation of a specific wo

I have written a long text in German which contains the word "Erinnerungsort"
(sing.) or "Erinnerungsorte" (pl.) very often. The Auto-Hyphenation in Word
2003 will divide the word as "Erinnerung-sort", which is wrong. The correct
hyphenation would be "Erinnerungs-ort". When I try manual hyphenation Word
always proposes the same wrong hyphenation. Can I teach Word to hyphenate
"Erinnerungs-ort" instead of "Erinnerung-sort"? And can I do this without
going manually through all instances of the Word, i.e. by manipulating the
dictionary or something similar?

Let's be sure ... your text's Set Language is German, and your
proofing tools are German?

Does it do this with all compounds that have the extra -s- in them?

Is it conceivable that the hyphenation rule was changed with the
spelling reform in 2003 to follow syllable division instead of meaning
division? You may be able to find a setting to use the old rules.

Otherwise, how about adding this word to your custom dictionary?

If Peter's suggestions don't help, apply a "no proofing" character style
(see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/M...#ExemptingText)
and then insert a conditional hyphen (Ctrl+Hyphen) in the desired place.

Peter: Yes, the text is formatted as "Language: German" and the proofing
tools are German too - they do the right thing most of the time. The
hyphenation of "Erinnerungsorte" did not change with the spelling reform, and
adding the word to the user dictionary does not help, because I do not know
of a way to define the correct hyphenation for a word within the dictionary.
I suspect there is a problem with the interpretation of hyphenation rules
concerning compounds (which are a highly complex phenomenon of the German
language anyway.)

Suzanne: Thinking about your suggestion I came up with a slightly different
solution: I replaced all (487!) instances of "Erinnerungsorte" with
"Erinnerungs^-orte" (i.e. an optional hyphen at the correct position) but
left the proofing options untouched. Now "Erinnerungsorte" seems to hyphenate
correctly and not only between the s and the o but also at all other possible
positions (Er|inne|rungs|orte).
