Default Word 2007 Slow When Switching to Word

I am running Vista Home Premium 64 on a Core 2 Quad @ 2.4 GHz with 4 GB Ram.

Recently upgraded from Office 2000 to 2007.

I can open Word 2007 and open my document without any problems. But when I
change the active windows and come back to Word, Word is extermely slow. The
hourglass comes on for a good 8 to 10 seconds. I have to wait and cannot do
anything. The CPU usage jumps by 25% during the wait time

While I have a few applications such as Outlook and Excel open, I am not
running any major applications.

This is very frustrating.

Help!!!!!!!!!!

Default Word 2007 Slow When Switching to Word

Hi Bij,

Have you run the MS Diagnostics to make sure Word is running correctly (Word Options|Resources|Diagnose)?

Hi Macropod,

thank you for your response. I ran the Diagnosis you suggested. The
diagnosis found and corrected one error under the Setup Diagnotic.

After the error was corrected, I exited Word and restarted my computer, but
I still have the same problem.

Do you have any mapped drives that are not available? Nothing slows my PC
down more than having a mapped external drive that is switched off. If not,
see http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...artingWord.htm.

Hi Graham,

No I do not have mapped drives.

I have checked the link you sent me and that did not address my problem.

The only other possibility I can think of concerns AV checking. Some AV
software makes working with Word problematical. I believe Kaspersky is one
such product. There have been problems reported with MacAfee and Norton is
another (at least it was in earlier versions). AVG without the office
document checking option works well.

My Anti Virus is AVG Free version 8.5.392.

I have noticed that even when I open a saved file, Word is slow to open the
document. This I can put up with, but not slow switching between open windows.

Did you install AVGs document checking? Try re-running AVG setup and uncheck
it. It doesn't do anything useful.
