Default New PC - Can't uninstall office 2003 trial, therefore cannot install office 2000

AAHAHHHHHHHHRRRHHG

A brand new PC from MESH (UK). All this cr*p preinstalled that I do not
want. Try uninstalling office 2003 60 day trial through control panel.

While "Gathering required information..." is displayed, gets half way and
then nothing. Left it for a good hour, no progress.

Try then to just install Office 2000 over it (which I own and am happy with)
no joy as it tries to uninstall first.

What can I do?

PLEASE HELP!!!! I'm getting far too stressed about this.

Cheers

Dave

Didn't fancy a decent system from a decent company then? You obviously did
no homework before purchase...

What is the requirement period to remember MVPs who we have never met? It looks like all idiots out there have joined the band wagon to insert a tag line which I am sure they don't mean it!

Also, what is wrong in buying a cheap machine once every 16 months just to read emails and download porn? Surely a machine is a machine whether you pay $2000 or $500 for basic functionality!

Dave,

Make sure your bios is set to read from the CD drive first then I would save
my important files to CD or disk and format the c: drive. Then load all your
software from scratch. It will save you headaches from any other trial
software as well.

Actually the plot thickens. The PC cannot uninstall any software. When using
uninstaller it always freezes at the same point.

So now waiting for a return call from support. But any suggestions are
welcome.

Reformatting your hard drive is a sure fire way to get rid of any software
bugs or even viruses you may have picked up. Sure, you have to reinstall
everything, but if you have your software handy, it's easy. You'll also start
clean with W2000.

Yeah doing the recovery, but you just don't expect to have to do this on a
PC fresh out of the box.

Anyway hopefully it will fix it.

Do you ever wonder if some part of that program is running in the background or
there is a reference to it in the taskbar by the clock. If any of these are existant
then uninstalling will stop.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think I MAY have found the problem

New windows update:--

Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
Download size: 2.5 MB, 6 minutes
The Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is the application installation and
configuration service for Windows. The additional features in version 3.1
help make creating, distributing, and managing updates to applications
easier and more efficient. Details...

After a reinstallation I noticed all was fine, things went wrong between
doing a windows update and installing Norton 2002. Seeing this new update
available, and having problems with all things to do with installing /
uninstalling, me thinks this could be part of the problem. I am have just
manually uninstalled it and am rebooting.

Could this be a MS boo boo

No such luck! another few hours wasted. After reinstalling and withholding
the update of the new installer. Still did not work. Maybe it's Norton.
