Default Need Product Key....FROM ANYONE!

Is someone does not help me soon, I am ready to hang
myself.

The problem is simple: I need an id key for MSOffice.
Yes, we had one, but with school just now starting, my
son needs to actually USE MSWord 2003. but no, he cannot
find the disc.

I wrote to Dell. They told me to write to MS. I wrote
to MS, they told me to write to Dell. So it went for a
few days. Finally, Dell explains that because it's the
2003 version, I MUST go right to MS. MS won't even let
me ask a question as soon as they see "oem" in the
product id.

Microsoft will not provide replacement product keys for OEM-installed copies
of Office. Keep calling Dell until you find someone who can help you. You
might have to pay Dell for a new key.

Where did MS Word 2003 came from? Did it came preinstalled on your PC? Or
did you get it afterwards from a store different from the PC maker?

Then you need the key from Dell or you will have to repurchase the software,
if you want to use it.

Hi Bobbee,

Call Microsoft back and tell them Dell refused to provide you with a
replacement CD key. Microsoft changed their policy on this and should
provide you with a replacement. They made charge a nominal fee but if
they do it shouldn't be much.

I've personally 'tested' MS Product Support on this issue so I know
this to be a fact. :-)

Beth,

This line of his post intrigues me

"...but no, he cannot find the disc..."

This intimates to me that Word isn't even installed. What use is a key going
to be to him if he hasn't the media to install the software? MS won't
provide replacement media for an OEM-supplied licence - and he'll have a job
obtaining one from Dell!

Might be easier (easier as in "less hassle" - if he's ready to commit
suicide over something so trivial!) for him to purchase Works Suite 2003
(2004?) if he only needs Word.

I missed the disk reference. In that case Dell should have supplied
him with his installation CDs and from my past experience with them
they do. (One of the few who actually follow the OEM guidelines from
MS but that's another story. g)

If the CD was lost then unfortunately at this point there is little
that can be done. Since the OEM must pay for each OEM CD it's too
costly for them to provide replacement media and Microsoft has not
changed their policy on replacement media for OEM copies as they did
with the CD keys. (We've been working on them though...)

Actually since they don't have a CD or the Product key then I suspect
they had a trial version of Office 2003 installed and a Product key
will be of little use anyway.

In that case I concur with your suggestion to get Works. :-) Although
the Student and Teachers Edition is close to the same price and since
the Office 2003 S&T Edition allows for installing Office on three
computers it's the better option.

That's a point - didn't think of that (replying in haste! ))
