A Dream? Images+Captions staying put in Word
Hello,
About 2 years ago, I fought tooth and nail with word 2000 to do the following simple thing in normal (~15page) documents: Position a figure with an autonumbered caption so it doesn't jump and/or drag paragraphs to other pages. It didn't seem too much to ask - but the kind of positioning (image/text boxes) that stops the horrible shunting of images could not be used with numbered captions (cross-references failed), so frames were needed (which caused the formatting nightmare). I ended up mutilating my documents by adding lots of paragraphs so frames had something to hook into. Before returning to the Dragons Lair, has anything changed while I've been strolling pastures new, or are there any third-party tools available to sort out this mess? Thanks for any help you may provide, |

Frankly, I don't understand the problem, unless you're using *the bad
method*. Selecting the graphic and using Insert-Caption is VERY different from simply placing the graphic as "inline with text" and then inserting a caption on the next paragraph. I avoid using text wrapping on graphics whenever possible, and hence avoid any issues that you're experiencing. If you apply a style to the graphic, and have the style set as "keep with next", this will also keep your caption from being at the top of page 2 while your graphic is sitting at the bottom of page 1. ________________________ **** Hope it helps! **** ~Dreamboat Excel VBA Certification Coming Soon! www.VBAExpress.com/training/ ******************************** "lineD" wrote in message ... Due to the writing style used, I wanted to get text to wrap around the images, and as you point out that is where the problems lie. I've had no problem with OO Writer on this front (it seems to use a more robust layout engine), and was hoping that there may have been a resolution to this via some extension that would e.g. make the text box layer open to cross- referencing. I'll keep hoping, and thank you for your prompt and helpful reply. |
