Default How can I remove the OPTION to enable password protection in Off

I am pushing out Office 2007 Pro, using the "Office Customization Tool"
(updated) and would like to remove the option of using password protection on
the documents. The company policy is that we do not password protect normal
documents, but people do, then they forget the passwords, etc... In Office
2000 this was easy enough, but in Office 2007 I do not see a way to remove
the option to create a password. I just want to remove that "Protect
Document" option.

Thanks!

Hi Natahn,

There are two places that you can set this. The first is a User configuraion setting in the Office Customization Tool (OCT)

Modify User Settings=Office 2007 Systems=Security

the other is a system policy in the Office12.adm Policy Template

The setting in both cases is titled
"Disable password to open UI"
(the OCT help isn't very descriptive g, but setting that to 'enable' should disable user access to password fields. Microsoft's
recommendation is not to use the setting. Be sure to test that applying it will still allow users to type in the password to any
files already password protected they may have or receive.

The setting is covered in the 2007 Microsoft Office Security Guide available from http://microsoft.com/downloads

Removing all of the document protection features would remove the ability to protect documents and workbooks to be used as fill in
forms.

Thanks Bob, however, I did try the option in the OCT and it failed to
restrict that password usage. I am not able to test the use of the ADM
option as we are not setup to use policies that way.

We continue to have the need to disable the password feature. We are
preparing to push Office 2007 out and really would like to disable the
feature of password protection. I still have to time left to test any other
ideas.

Thank you,
Nathan
