Default faxing and Windows 98

You must have *one* of those apps, not all.

You'll get much better advice in this newsgroup, to which I'm crossposting
my reply:

Do you have MS Exchange, Windows Messaging (which is /not/ Windows
Messenger), MS Exchange Server Client or MS Outlook installed? If
not, you cannot use MS Fax.

Did you machine come with an application called Phone Tools
installed? It can be used to fax as can most all-in-one printers.

My hyusband says our modem has a fax built in. We also have fax
wizard. I can get there by going to file, to send to, to fax
recipient. I can set up everything and it says it has sent my
fax. My printer prints me a copy of my
fax. But then, I get a message from my e-mail that says it
failed. It says it does not recognize the fax number as a good
e-mail address. How can I get it to do this?

Go to 'Control Panel|Mail', select "Microsoft Exchange Server" in the
"Services" window, and click the "Remove" button. Microsoft Exchange Server
is an email system used by businesses for the most part and is almost NEVER
used by an ISP as a general email service. If this service wasn't
specifically placed there to talk to you or your husband's business email
system, you have no need of it. As soon as this service is removed, you'll
stop getting asked for information you don't have.
