Hello,

I created a newsletter for my client that she's going to have printed at a
printer. She's printing on an 8.5 x 11 page and is paying for full bleed.
So, b/c she is getting full bleed, I set my paper size to 8.63" x 11.1"
(hopefully this is right.) When I go to File / Print to PDF and choose
Press Quality or High Quality, the first error I get is:

The sheet size you're printing is too small for some or your printer's marks
to print. If you're printing to film or creating a PostScript file, choose
a larger sheet size.

I had created a new (custom) page size that was equal to my page size (8.63
x 11.1) - is that what's causing the problem? If I need to increase it, by
how much do I need to increase it?

Thanks!

Setting the page size to 8.63 x 11.1 will give you 1/16th of a bleed on the
sides and .05 inches (too lazy to do the math) top an bottom. That is
essentially *NO* bleed. You need at least 1/8th inch, .125, for bleed. I'm
not sure why she's paying "extra" for bleed. It sounds like someone is
leaching money for something. At any rate, you want to be using a 9.5 x 12
sheet and the job should be run on at least 12x18 stock. That way they can
get the job two on a sheet and still get the bleeds in there and hopefully
save the client a buck or two.

And your page size should 8.5 x 11 with the objects that are bleeding off
extending out beyond the 8.5 x 11 page.

If you don't have an option for Letter Extra or a custom size of 9.5 x 12
you can always use 11 x 17 (tabloid) and the printer can impose it to output
it optimally.

If you are using a digital press ( color copier ) then Press Quality is
fine. If you're using a offset press or an Indigo then it might be a problem
because of the rich blacks for text and line art.
