Default First time use of Outllok 2007 problem

I have just installed Outlook 2007 and when I first clicked send and receive
I had 27000 emails downloaded into Outllook. Most were junk/spam and went as
far back as 2006. I have just downloaded all of these which took hours and
gone through and deleted them all. However, on opening outlook it is now
downloading all 27000 of them again. How can I stop this happening
