Is there a built in component of this system that allows
me to create business documents such as brochures, etc.
without the need for additional software? I am a beginner
and do not understand much of the normal terminology. I
just want to create a bi-fold hand-out for an upcoming
event. Have Microsoft Word and Adobe 6.0 installed at
present.

No, Windows is the operating system. The following is from
www.webopedia.com:

"The most important program that runs on a computer. Every general-purpose
computer must have an operating system to run other programs. Operating
systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard,
sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories
on the disk, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and
printers.

"For large systems, the operating system has even greater responsibilities
and powers. It is like a traffic cop -- it makes sure that different
programs and users running at the same time do not interfere with each
other. The operating system is also responsible for security, ensuring that
unauthorized users do not access the system."

Since you have Word, I'd suggest starting with that. Not the best choice but
you didn't mention that you had Publisher so we'll start with what you *do*
have. Go to
http://office.microsoft.com/search/r...EC010331121033

That will take you to a list of templates for brochures. Select the ones for
Word and go from there.

And I have a feeling you may only have Adobe's free Acrobat Reader, not
Acrobat itself, unless you purchased it. You said you are a beginner and
most beginners don't plop down $250 for software without making sure that it
is what they need.

For future help with Word, may I suggest the Word newsgroups? Lots of people
who can help you with Word-specific issues over there. Good luck with your
handout.

What is "Adobe 6"?

Adobe, the company, makes many different programs. Including quite a few
that might be considered "6"

What is the full name? Adobe Acrobat Reader 6? Adobe Acrobat 6? Adobe
Acrobart Distiller 6? Each is different from the other.
