Look, the absence of a reasonably-priced upgrade/addition of Powerpoint to
Microsoft Windows Basic Office 2003 product (which was pre-installed before
PC purchase in my case) by ANYONE on the planet is a total disgrace and
outright joke. Maybe the way that Mr Gates funds his 10US$ billion funds to
"create something positive on this planet" (garfield n odie statement, but
for what? Like bigger profitable businesses or what?) is by fleecing those
genuine MS users who are given no other alternative than to pay way over the
odds for Microsoft exclusive products.

Is it any wonder that the software piracy market exists when business
practises like this exist. The powerpoint software stands alone anyway,
even when part of the Standard Edition package as far as I can tell. It
isn't just individuals who get fleeced by MS anyway but businesses too. The
Basic 2003 Office package is about US$372, the addition of Powerpoint means
buying the Standard 2003 Office package of US$689 on top, so only some
US$317 of this switch is for powerpoint alone. So you're expected to spend
US$1061 for a US$317 upgrade. How about that?

Microsoft is not an exclusively environmental company, as far as I know. It
is, as far as I know right now, just another business aimed at maximum
profit-making.

There are many people on this planet who have ideals which include trying to
reduce the changes of human intervention due to so-called technological
progress. I would count myself as one of these people. The Microsoft
products in themselves are not that environmentally-friendly, as they spawn
the multiuse of power-hungry pcs and mainframe computers, maybe TV display
sets too, amongst other things, many left on povernight without use. Many
of these computer/TV uses are for personal or business use only and are
detrimental to the environment. The high misuse of the Internet for porn,
spamming and similar issues can only be described as legendary, but it is
Microsoft operating systems which allow this to happen in general.

I think it completely wrong that ANONYMOUS thinks that the Earth is the
simplest planet in the Universe. Look, never try to kid a kidda, OK? The
Earth may very well be the only source of true intelligent universal life
and the Earth's planetary weather and ecological systems are incredibly
complex which scientists and students here have only really begun to
understand during the last 50 years or less. The presence of humans, other
animals and vast collection of plant species prove how unusual Earth is. The
other Solar System planets, as far as is known right now, are very
inhospitable places for life. The detection of life on far-away planets in
the universe has so far revealed nothing.

The final Microsoft joke is that the powerpoint reader software is freely
available for download, I know, because I just downloaded it myself tonite.

I am not going to waste US$170 to add a small powerpoint package to my Basic
MS Office 2003 system. There are other ways to achieve goals in life,
including use of my local college pcs and MIcrosoft software, etc.

The outcome of this discussion is that Microsoft is a total disgrace, a big
gross money-making machine. Congratulations, Bill, on the monster that
you've built.

Perhaps learning to use the right tool for the job would enhance your
success rate? Don't berate a company because you can't use the tools
correctly.

I find that Microsoft does not appear to help people like me, in that

there
is no student or general upgrade from Office 2003 Basic to Standard

package
so that Powerpoint can be installed with the Basic package. Cost of
individual Powerpoint installation via Microsoft US website (probably

aimed
at $$$business) seems to be some 224US$, but the whole standard package
(Student version anyway) in UK is about 170US$. Just why is this?

Bill Gates and his charitable foundation have given over US$10
billion (yes, that's billion with a B) to create something
positive on this planet. What have you done, besides b!tch and moan?

If you qualify for Office 2003 Students and Teachers Edition,
then purchase and install it (after you uninstall your Office
2003 Basic Edition) and you'll have Powerpoint 2003 in addition
to the Office 2003 applications you currently have. See
http://www.microsoft.com/office/edit...y/student.mspx
for more information.

what exactly are you struggling to create something positive on this
planet? Could you elaborate on this please.

This planet is the simplest in our universe which requirs no human
intervention. However, any human intervention always results in
problems. Our eco system and weather system has changed beyond repair
because of you so called positive makers on this planet.

Thanks.

I seriously think that you should give up if you are "struggling to
create something positive on this planet".

Why don't you go to your nearest library which should have a computer
for your private use. Tony Blair has spent millions of my money to help
people like you but you are too lazy to wake up early in the morning to
go to your library.

Alternatively, join a proper college of further education which should
have ample computer facility for students' use. Hav you thought of
joing Birkbeck College, Univesity of London? See this link:

http://www.bbk.ac.uk/main

BBK has about 1000 PCs for exclusive use of students 24/7. They could
give you access to their systems if you write to them and explain that
you are an OU student. I suggest Contact Dr. Jasbir Gill whose details
are he
