First of all, here is what is looks like:
http://www.geocities.com/cbfunky/prob

The first picture is from a backup file (thank god

for
those!), the second one is from the current

document. I
just noticed that all of my footnotes are gone, or
better: they are not being displayed (because when I
hover the cursor over the reference, the baloon

thingy
with the text shows up).

I already tried the following:
1) View - Normal - Display - Footnotes: The

footnotes
show up in a seperate pane but they do NOT show in

the
document and they are NOT being printed!

2) Copying the whole text into a new doc - doesnt

change
anything.

3) Inserting a new footnote on the same page as an
already existant one: until five minutes ago the
footnotes would show up until I finished typing the

new
one, but now Word only keeps a) crashing or b) re-
numbering pages for the end of all times.

Gnaaaaa, I'm desperate! Please help me!
Thanks,
cbfunky

One suggestion that may be completely off the wall but might make a
difference is to check the Compatibility Options (Tools | Options |
Compatibility) and make sure they are set to Word 2002. Also, make sure that
the table is not wrapped (Table Properties | Table | Wrapping: None). It's
hard to imagine what might be causing this problem, but if you would like to
send (to my email--don't post it here) a *small* sample of a document
experiencing this issue, I'll be happy to take a look at it.

Thanks for the offer but I found a little trick around
the problem:

I insert a footnote anywhere on the same page above the
table, set its color to white, and delete the space
between those two words (so it looks like regular text).
This is where I write the footnote remark.
Next I delete the original footnote and replace it with a
number formatted so it looks like a footnote but doesn't
have a link underneath it.

Not very elegant but it gets the job done.

Thanks again for your help!
