Default Purchased laptop w/ preinstall software MS Office (Home and Studen

Purchased key from River 32 bit Vista. Since then have purchased new Laptop
w/ 64 bit Vista. Would like to install on new laptop as 2nd in home same
license! When installed key to trial base preinstalled version works great
but now need to copy trial to new computer but converted can't find trial!
Two questions 1. Can I copy new trial version and use same Key for install
purposes? 2. Can I revert to trial with orginal converted?
I don't seem to have the software on my factory disks!

You keep talking about Vista but this is an Office site.

If you are talking about converting a trial version of Office 2007, that can
only be converted and activated on ONE computer and it is the one that it is
installed on. To be able to install on more than one computer you need to
purchase a retail version of the software. OEM and MLK versions are one
computer and the original computer only.

Office suite Home and Student terms and conditions state:
DURING ACTIVATION, VALIDATION AND FOR INTERNET-BASED SERVICES.
IF YOU COMPLY WITH THESE LICENSE TERMS, YOU HAVE THE RIGHTS BELOW FOR EACH
LICENSE YOU ACQUIRE.
1. OVERVIEW. These license terms permit installation and use of a copy of
the software on three devices, along with other rights, all as described
below.
2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a
license, you must assign that license to a device. That device is a
“licensed device.” A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a
separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install one copy of the software on three
licensed devices in your household for use by people who reside there. The
software is not licensed for use in any commercial, non-profit, or
revenue-generating business activities.

Am I reading this wrong as to have one copy on three devices as to license I
accepted?

COA is the Certificate of Authenticity

The retail version (FPP on the COA) of Home and Student (shrink wrapped
version and #1 below)
is able to be installed on three different computers for use by you and your
family in the same household but NOT for commercial purposes.

The preinstalled and activated version by the computer manufacturer is the
OEM version or #2 below. (OEM on the COA)

The preinstalled but purchased key from where the computer is purchased is
the Media License Kit or #3 below. (MLK on the COA) This is also
apparently what you get when you convert a trial software by purchasing a
key online from Microsoft but you need to read the license agreement when
you get the key.

These options were of same cost? The money I spent on only one copy, in a
different way I could have had three!!! Is there any recompense for stupidity
on my part?

Unfortunately no. And unfortunately Microsoft (MS) doesn't identify, IMHO,
the different license types available to people and the benefit of
purchasing retail rather than purchasing via the activation of the trial
software on one system. I really wish that MS would stop pushing the
installation of the trial software on new computers. It is an issue that
many have had problems with and is a great source of posts on this newsgroup
and others related to Office.
