Outlook contacts and settings
After installing a new hard drive, I attempted to
reinstall Office contacts and settings files manually (to avoid putting corruption back on the new hard drive. I now have some of my contacts, but the default address book is empty and my personal settings (such as signatures) are missing. The Help files are no help for manually installing files that were originally setup automatically behind the scenes. I have clicked on everything in Outlook trying to find a way to directly install the data, to no avail. My question is this: how can I identify all of the Outlook user files and where they need to go on the hard drive. Are there user data files other than PST? Are there locations other than Documents and Settings for user settings? Where can I get information about the file structure of Outlook? Thanks, John |

Look here for all the information you need on backup and restoration of
Outlook data: http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm The Address Book is just another view of your Contacts folder; we'll need to know your Outlook version to help you get that view back. If you're using Outlook 98 or 2000, we'll also need to know if you're running in Internet Mail Only mode or Corporate/Workgroup mode -- you can find this information on the second line of Help | About Microsoft Outlook. Thanks for the advice. My Outlook is 2003 on a single computer with no network. I had 5 contact lists originally: Personal, Clients, Consultants, VW Group, and Small Firm Group. After reinstalling from backup, all except the "Consultants" appear as Outlook contact folders. I need to know how to find that folder, or turn it on if it's installed and just not showing in Outlook. Another problem is that the address book that opens to place an eddress in a new email is empty. I need to know how to make my contact lists available. Any specific directions will be appreciated. Thanks for your help. By referring to the SlipStick webpage, (and by turning off "hide system files) I was able to find all of the Outlook files on my backup.
