Undo/redo buffers empty
Every once in a while, some combination of keystrokes empties the undo and redo buffers. All of a sudden, both buttons on the toolbar gray out and control-Z/Y do nothing. This seems to occur when I’ve mis-keyed something (i.e., my fingers don’t hit the key-combination I was trying for), though I haven’t been able to tell the exact combination that does it. It’s happened on documents that have been open for both long and short amounts of time, and there seems to be no connection to the buffer emptying and the last time I saved. Any ideas of how/why this happens? Can I remap those keys to avoid the issue? Thanks, Rhythm |

Protecting/unprotecting a document is the only thing I know of that will
clear the Undo/Redo stack. It is possible, of course, that you are fumble-fingering the keyboard shortcut for a macro intended to do this (if you are using a system set up by someone else; if it's your own personal one, presumably you would know of the existence of such a macro). OTOH, I don't know of a keyboard shortcut for protecting/unprotecting a document, so that would have to exist as well for your scenario to be possible. Or conceivably you could be inadvertently keying the accelerator sequence Alt, T, P. In recent versions of Word, however, this would open the Protect Document task pane, so it would be pretty obvious what was going on. -- Suzanne S. Thanks. I have Editorium’s Editors Toolkit installed, but I don’t believe it
does that. Then again, though I use a lot of its features, I use far from all of them. I also have a slew of personal macros which is what tends to yield odd key-strokes if I botch it (i.e., alt-ctl-WHAT?!). All of my personal macros are left hand based, so no P there. Also, the accelerator command is alt-l-pr, so that’s not happening (and like you said, it brought up a menu that I don’t see). I keep trying to pay attention to what triggers it, but since it’s accidental (if it’s related to key mashing), I never catch it until it’s too late. "Suzanne S.
