Default Total dates e!

IN A1 type Names
In B1 type Datesmissed
In C1 type Totalnumberofdaysmissed
In C2 type the formula =COUNT(B:B)

Then highlight all three columns and do Format Column Auto fit
selection.............this will set the width of all three columns to
encompass the text you just typed in Row 1.

Then enter your names in column A and the corresponding dates missed in
column B (but only one date per row), as you described and the total number
of dates missed will accumulate in cell C2
